Cozy up in a cave

Published February 29, 2012 by housecrazy

Cave dwellings have been around forever. Since at least, well, Fred Flintstone’s era anyway. But they are not very common in our modern age. You hardly ever see those things anymore.

So when I came across the Beckham Creek Cave Lodge, I was awestruck.

Located near Jasper, Arkansas, this cave lodge is right in the heart of Ozark country.

This place is really built right into a cave – there’s no other way to put it. You will be touching rock when you go feeling around for the bathroom light.

Bart Prince designed “House Beneath The Mountain” is for sale

Published February 12, 2012 by housecrazy

American architect Bart Prince is probably my favorite contemporary designer. I just love his stuff. His creations are strikingly organic and complex – like massive science projects set in majestic landscapes.

The natural rugged beauty of the western United States really informs his work.

A house that he recently designed is on the market in the Albuquerque, New Mexico foothills.

Listed for $2,500,000 this one-of-a-kind home is said to be inspired by ancient indigenous themes and the spectacular natural vistas that surround.

Football shaped house

Published February 5, 2012 by housecrazy
Quick post today since I am headed up to Denver.

In honor of the Great American Holiday (Superbowl Sunday) I wanted to show you this football-shaped house:

Located in Sao Paulo, Brazil, this spherical home belongs to a cell phone company executive who is apparently a huge fan of football (the American kind, not the European kind – that’s a whole ‘nother house!)

Today I am featuring a house from my home country, Canada. And yes, it is round.

Take a look at this unique green-built home near Owen Sound, Ontario:

Crazy Toronto house on stilts

Published January 24, 2012 by housecrazy

A friend of mine from Toronto alerted me to the pending sale of the infamous “stilt-house” in Toronto, Ontario (thanks Margaret)! This wicked house is located right near where I used to live in the east-side Toronto Beaches neighborhood.

I posted last week about a house on stilts in Evergreen, Colorado, but this multi-colored, multi-storied giant Rubik’s cube-like thing takes the prize for most jaws hitting the ground:
